Overview
A PAN correction request updates data attached to an existing PAN; it is not a fresh PAN application. The Income Tax Department publishes the current correction forms and routes applications through authorised Protean or UTIITSL services.
Who can apply?
A person or entity with an existing PAN can request correction using the form appropriate to the applicant category.

Keep in mind
Important Points
- Do not apply for a second PAN to correct existing data.
- A reprint without data changes is a different request from a correction.
- Income Tax Department guidance distinguishes PAN record changes from e-filing profile contact updates.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a new PAN number for a correction?
No. Use the correction route for the existing PAN instead of applying for another PAN.
Can I submit a correction online?
The Income Tax Department permits online submission through authorised PAN service providers.
Which documents are needed?
Evidence depends on the field being changed and the applicant category; check the current official form and provider checklist.
Is changing e-filing contact information the same thing?
No. Updating an e-filing profile does not necessarily correct the underlying PAN record.
